EAST MILLBROOK ACADEMY OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE
THEATRE GUILD/ THE EAST MILLBROOK ACTORS ENSEMBLE (YR/EXT. PERIOD/AUDITION PLACEMENT/DIRECTOR APPROVAL)
This highly rigorous course is designed for the experienced theatre student with a comprehensive study of the creative process of a theatrical artist. Guild members will produce works throughout the year in a variety of contemporary and classical main stage productions, original works, and community engagements. Prerequisite: Student must be accepted into the Theatre Guild program of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.
MAGNET TECHNICAL THEATRE (Semester)
This course is designed for theatre technicians who will study scenery, lighting, sound, properties, costumes, and set design for the purpose of theatrical performances. Critique sessions are a major component of this course. Students are required to articulate verbally the visual ideas and concepts as they pertain to art and design. The maintenance of a process/developmental workbook/sketchbook is required for aesthetic and conceptual investigation.
MAGNET PLAYWRIGHTING (Semester)
This course is designed for students to learn the craft of playwrighting. Students will study plot, character, theme, setting, and theatricality. This course functions as a playwrighting workshop as students work both independently and collaboratively. Students will present their work to peers with opportunities to present before an audience.
MAGNET INTRODUCTION TO PUPPETRY (Semester)
This course is designed for students to learn the craft, history, and performance styles of puppetry. Students will study the cultural significance of puppets in theatrical presentations through the ages, and work collaboratively with peers to create scenes and puppets for informal performances.
MAGNET INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE (Semester)
Students are introduced to the world of theatre through creative dramatics, acting strategies, improvisation, and vocal diction. Novice actors will focus on utilizing their creativity, voice, and body as instruments for expression. Actors will create characters and act out scenes from fantasy and real life situations.
